6" wide plates look good on timbers ranging in width from 6" to 12"

The VB6 plate is useful for connecting truss bottom chords to top chords where the top chord sits on the bottom chord

The T8 is useful for connecting king and queen posts to truss bottom tie beams

The VT4 plate is useful for connecting truss bottom chords to top chords where the bottom chord hangs from the top chord (as in collar ties/tie beams)

I6 6" wide plates look goodThe I6 is useful for connecting timbers end to end or as straps that overlap timbers on any face. 6" wide plates look good on timbers ranging in width from 6" to 12". 3 16" steel is a good choice for purely decorative plates. 1 4" is better for applications that need structural support.
